What started as a simple flapper replacement turned into a plumbing rabbit hole today. When I went to shut off the water at the globe spigot, everything seemed fine until I turned it back on. It started leaking immediately. I tried the standard fixes such as tightening the packing nut and even adding graphite cord, but no luck.
Deciding to just replace the whole thing, I cut the pipe, only to run into a new problem. I bought a sharkbite 1/2" by 3/8" OD , thinking I had standard chrome-finished copper. Turns out, the SharkBite was slightly too small. Based on the dimensions, I’m thinking this might actually be a 3/8" IPS (Iron Pipe Size) line rather than copper tubing. I can't unscrew the IPS so I was wondering what type of product would I need to clamp onto this pipe coming up from the floor.
Has anyone else run into this with older toilet supply lines? Attaching some photos of the dimensions for the experts in the group. The ID of the pipe is .58 inches and the OD is .675 inches. I used emory cloth to remove what I thought was a chrome finish off a copper pipe but now I am not sure.
