We're renovating a bathroom and the cast iron radiator in that bathroom has been disconnected. It's getting cold here and we'd like to be able to use our boiler and radiators (hot water, not steam) for the rest of the house -- the bathroom radiator is part of the main house loop. It seems like, with the valve closed, we should be able to use our system. However, the valve seems to leak very slightly.
Is there any sort of cap I can add to these pipes to ensure nothing leaks out once the water pressure is back on? They're part of the radiator unions, so I don't think plain 1" caps will work properly, unless tape/dope could make the seal?
Should I just put something underneath the leaky valve and occasionally empty it?
Or is it not possible to run the system while this radiator is disconnected?
