I discovered that the green vpc coated iron pipe (pipe says astm a53 on it) for my gas line to my garage is rusting pretty badly. Is it safe to evacuate the pipe and sand down and coat with pipe tape or a sealant? Or is this bad enough it must be cut out and replaced? I am guessing the pipe install is 10-15years old. Is there a flexible fitting that could be used here to reconnect? I believe this is under some decent lateral tension from the horizontal connection to the garage.
