I am trying to determine the purpose of this pipe in my attic (if any). It is metal, 4-6" in diameter, and comes down from the roof and then turns at a right-angle for a couple of feet before ending in mid-air. The attic end is open - I have not been up on the roof yet to see what that end looks like. It appears that it may have been cut-off - there is what looks like the end of another pipe nested inside it.
I bought the house recently, and it was heavily renovated by the sellers (an investment company), so I'm wondering if this may be vestigial.
Is this serving some active purpose? Is so, what? If not, should I have any concerns about it?
