I have been shutting off the water to my kitchen overnight since the pipes are prone to freezing. I also open up the kitchen faucet when the pipes are shut off from the basement.
Today I discovered the pipes are freezing on the way up from the basement, so the next day when I open up the water supply, no water makes it to the kitchen.
My question is, if I shut off the water in the basement, and open up the kitchen faucet, can I still have burst pipes/damage?
I have no way of completely draining the water in the basement, but can get a plumber to add a drain valve, if this will prevent further damage during freezing weather.
